Dear Prospective Student,

Greetings in the Name of Jesus, and welcome to The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary. Thank you for your interest in our school.

This catalog is now in your hands by Divine Providence and could be the KEY to greater opportunities in your life.

If God has placed a desire in your heart for a Christian Education and/or Ministerial Training, then we encourage you to carefully read and prayerfully examine this catalog. The most important things in your life are your soul’s salvation, your choice of a life companion, and then your career.

Relating directly to that is selecting the school that best suits you in preparation for a fruitful Christian life and/or an effective ministry.

This book is your NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION. It may take some time to read it, but we think you will find it both interesting and informative; and we assure you that everything in it is absolutely true. Then as you pray for God’s will to be revealed, if He should prompt you to become a student of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, we will be happy to receive you.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is fully accredited by , THE WORLD-WIDE ACCREDITING COMMISSION OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.. Anyone wishing to contact them may call the President, Dr. Paul A. Richardson, Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at (804) 276-4709. Please do not call at other times because they have over 100 other schools in many states and some foreign countries, and are very busy.

Over the years, the word "accreditation" as used by those involved in higher education has acquired various interpretations, but essentially it indicates that some outside responsible body of educators have examined a school and found it to be doctrinally, academically, and financially reliable, and has certified that it meets their ethical standards. The purpose is to simply assure the public that the school is a reputable establishment.

What ordination is to a minister, accreditation is to a school.  Therefore, most faculty and degree students feel that accreditation is very important, although it is not legally required. It's a voluntary process.

In a Spiritual sense, the highest accreditation any school could have would be the blessings of Divine Providence. Our best accreditation is the successful lives and ministries of our satisfied students.  Isn't graduate performance what it's really all about?

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is deeply committed to providing both quality Bible college programs for lay Christian workers, and seminary training for experienced ministers.

Our early courses are for Christians who wish to learn how to integrate Biblical principles into their daily lives, homes, and businesses. --- those who want to be a better witness for the Lord, and to effectively participate in their local Church, community, and country.

In a sense, every Christian is a minister, in that we are all to serve one another for the Lord’s sake; and in a way, a preacher is just an over-grown Christian.

Our latter courses are for ministerial students, who already have a basic working knowledge of the Bible, but seek to develop more proficient ministerial skills.

The ability to think is the gift of the Creator, and the desire to know is divinely implanted.

Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”  So, a proper recognition and respect for God is the first step of education.  A wise man can render a reason for all he does, but a fool is smug in his thoughtlessness.  A wise man will increase in wisdom, but a fool is closed-minded.

Education is a progression from Knowledge to Understanding to Wisdom, like the process from eating to digestion to physical energy.

Learning is essential for deciding what things are least and most important, and for making intelligent choices in your everyday life. Much of your present lifestyle has been shaped by everything you’ve learned since birth.

Education is the important act of passing along the accumulated knowledge from preceding generations to the next one, without which we would be plunged back into the fears and superstitions of the dark ages of pre-history.  Getting a degree just proves that you did your part in conveying the torch of truth to tomorrow’s youth.

Ideas rule the world of men, and new ideas have changed the course of history. Our generation has been dubbed, “The Information Age.” But, today’s scientific technology may be outdated tomorrow.

Therefore, the Church must rise to the occasion and meet the demands of a high-tech and rapidly changing society. The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary views Christian education as a necessity and ministerial training as urgency.

The public knows of the need for training for their secular occupations, so why should anyone suppose that evangelists and pastors need no special training?  An untrained person is usually considered an amateur.   Ignorance is not stupidity; it’s merely a lack of information, so don’t let a lack of education hold you back. All other things being equal, a smarter Christian can do better than an ignorant one.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary holds the old, but ever fresh Holy Bible as the Manufacturer’s Hand Book and the Universal Answer Book.  The Word of God never changes, but our means of communication does. All Christians need a good solid foundation upon which to build their faith and life:

·                    Basic Biblical studies are for foundation.

·                    Systematic Theological studies are for indoctrination.

·                    Ministerial studies are for practical application.

Taking our courses not only involves the acquisition of Divine data, but the cultivation of mental discipline and promotion of spiritual growth. Our object is to not only spiritually illuminate men and women, but to motivate them in a life of usefulness for the glory of God.

In the Christian, natural and spiritual knowledge is integrated, as they both come from the same Source.  The better our understanding, the better we can take advantage of our opportunities in life.

Our training courses will increase your effectiveness in any ministerial project you undertake.  Some of our graduates are already teaching classes in local churches, and others go directly into the field of Christian Education.  The best teachers teach because they love to teach, and the best students study because they love to learn.

I believe that the spiritual truths we learn on earth will be retained in our Heavenly Life, and will be built upon for eternity. If you have dreams and aspirations, your personal Christian education must not be postponed.

A college is an educational institution that offers courses of study beyond the high school level.

There are over a thousand home study Bible Institutes in the U.S.A. today, and many are just offices that mail out Bible Courses to thousands of students. Sometimes major Bible schools change to become correspondence schools, while some correspondence schools start having local classes.

Spiraling costs are a common complaint, as a residential school can cost over $20,000 per year, which is financially infeasible. When a school gets too expensive, time consuming, and strenuous its enrollment usually begins to shrink.

Like churches there are different kinds of Schools, but types do emerge. We acknowledge many good schools around the world, but I don’t believe you will ever regret your decision to complete your education with The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary.

Most folks know that “freshman”, “sophomore”, “Junior”, “Senior”, and “Graduates” are the ranks of students of higher education.

Community colleges offer undergraduate programs that lead to a Diploma, Associate, and Bachelor degree. Universities offer graduate programs that lead to a Master and Doctorial degree.

A university is usually bigger than a college and is often made up of several colleges on a single campus. If a college is not a subdivision of a university, it sometimes grows and become a university, so that today “College” and “University” is used somewhat interexchangeably.

A religious school that offers masters and doctorial degrees is called a seminary. So seminaries are the universities of religious education. But, they can also offer undergraduate studies.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is both a Bible College offering undergraduate’s studies and a Theological Seminary providing graduate programs, so that we offer degrees on all levels.

In developing the body, they say, “No pain, no gain.” In developing Christian character, we say, “No cross, no crown.” And in the development of the mind, we say, “No work, no honor.”

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary has prepared excellent study courses, but you receive no benefit until you start studying them. Babies must be fed, but adults can feed themselves. Immature youths may need the classroom structure and a teacher to push them. But to participate in the programs of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, one must have a reasonably stable lifestyle and a sense of responsibility and priority. Education by mail requires individual motivation and personal incentive. You must have a God-given drive and diligence. The very word “study” implies an ongoing commitment, application, and persistence to complete a course. But in the end, it will develop your mental abilities, and promote your Spiritual refinement.

Many things compete for the time you need to study God’s Word. If you’re a busy breadwinner, you may have precious little time for study, so you may have to sacrifice something. But in the same way that we must make room for Christ in our lives, and take time to pray, you will have to prearrange a place and create a time to study. It may require a firm determination to eliminate some T.V., etc.  But God will help you develop your own techniques for avoiding distractions and overcoming interruptions.

However, we recommend that students do NOT rush through their courses too fast. You have no deadlines, so work on your studies at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. You don’t want your degrees too close together.

It takes a year just to get in some colleges. Then its degrees are locked into a time-served system.  It can take up to six years to receive a Doctorial degree from some universities. But hanging around a campus five or six years doesn't necessarily make a person more successful than someone else who completes his or her studies in a fraction of the time. Total time elapsed is not the main ingredient of learning.

For instance, Jesus completely trained the Apostles for tremendous miracle ministries in less than 3 1/2 years. This is because our spiritual walk is not controlled by the calendar or subject to the clock. The operation of the Holy Spirit supersedes both time and space.

Therefore, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary follows a set semester schedule. We operate continuously year round. Whenever you're ready for us, we are ready for you. The Lord is doing a quick work in these last days. Rom. 9:28 So The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary has an intensive and accelerated program of study. Our courses are so time-tailored that you could complete them in a relatively short span.

You study on your own schedule, and proceed at your own pace, but please don't HURRY, because there should be a reasonable interval between your degree levels.

As soon as we receive your application and fee, we will schedule your courses and provide your text and other materials so you can begin to study. Upon completion of the required courses in a curriculum, you may attend a periodically scheduled Graduation Ceremony at the Greater Mount Zion Christian Church in Greenville, North Carolina.

There are some good reasons to pursue a solid Christian education and the degrees that go with it.  It’s good to learn something worthy, do something worthwhile, and earn something worth having.

Taking the Bible Courses of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary may not make you better than others, but it will make you better than you were. We should continue to grow personally and professionally throughout our lives. Most servants of God could use a little more confidence, and a degree can improve your self-esteem and image. And greater acceptance can be encouraging.

It seems every enterprise today is a challenge. Every market is competitive and demands excellence. When it comes to any kind of claim today, the public yells, “Prove it!” A degree is not to just win respect from your peer, but to help persuade the suspicious, convince the skeptical, and overcome the gainsayers. Religious degrees are becoming more important to ministers, because the people to whom we minister have their own degrees, and we need to meet and relate to them on their own educational level. Never before has a college degree meant so much to so many people.

A “Doctor’s” degree is like an overgrown preacher’s card. It can open “Doors” for you to proclaim the message of the Master, which might otherwise remain shut. A “Doctor’s” degree is like an oversized letter of recommendation. It’s a bid for believability, to reassure folks of your principles, ethics, and reliability. It’s not to puff up your ego, but to add a ring of authenticity to your sermon ideas.

A “Doctor’s” degree is like a microphone to boost your voice for Jesus to a world lost in religious confusion. It’s not to make you popular with the world, but to lend credibility to your teaching and preaching. It’s not for any personal vainglory, but just to extend the influence of your ministry of God’s Holy Word.

It can broaden your opportunities for service, and promote your work for the Lord. If a pulpit committee was looking over two pastoral candidates, and most things on their resumes were fairly equal, but one had a Doctor of Theology degree from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, and the other didn’t, it would probably tip the scales in favor of the one who had done his homework, and land him the position.

Or, if a Church member invited his boss to your Church, and the visitor inquired about your training, how would it be if your church member had to explain that you had little or no formal education. Thus, a degree could enhance your value to your Church, and promote its reputation in the community.

As a secular degree usually means increased income in the business world, so a religious degree could spiritually benefit you and result in a brighter future for your whole family. Perhaps we should rather ask why anyone would not want a degree, if it can so maximize your potential. Can you be your best for Christ without one?

1.                    We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the authoritative rule of all doctrine and practice for the Church today.

2.                    We believe there is only one true living God --- Father, Son, and Holy Ghost--- Three in One and One in Three. He is Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent.

3.                    We believe the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, is the Divine Son of God, lived a sinless life, worked all manner of miracles, was striped for our healing, and crucified for our sins. He was bodily resurrected from the dead, ascended to heaven, is sitting at the right hand of God, and shall return to rule in the kingdom of God. He is the only Savior of all mankind.

4.                    All of mankind are sinners by nature and subject to eternal judgment. Man is a free moral agent to choose salvation by repentance from sin, and turning to God with faith in Christ. We may know that we are saved and must endure to the end.

New converts are commanded to be baptized in water by immersion in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

We are to pray daily, study the Word often and fellowship in the Church regularly. We are to love others, be humble, and obey God.

5.                    We believe in the Baptism into the Holy Ghost as a distinct endowment of power from on high for witnessing and service. All the gifts of the Spirit are available today.

6.                    We believe Christ is the Foundation and Head of the church, which is made up of every born again believer on earth.

Christ is coming soon to reward His Saints and punish the wicked.

7.                    We believe in an endless Heaven for the redeemed and an everlasting Hell for the damned. There are angels and demons.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is for sincere Christians who are dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ. We subscribe to the highest Christian standards, and we expect our students to also reflect high moral and spiritual standards of life. We endeavor to provide leadership by example.

We will not even consider accepting a homosexual into our School, or knowingly admit anyone practicing sexual activity outside marriage (adultery, fornication, and all uncleanliness). It should be obvious that alcohol, tobacco, and any other form of substance abuse are beneath Scriptural standards for the Saints of God. Students must be free from gambling, profanity, excessive anger, and such like. We expect our students to manifest Christ in their attitude, deportment, and dress.

We urge students to find a good local Church to fellowship and worship God regularly, unless they are a Pastor in their own Church.  The Bible teaches us to so live as to never cast a reproach upon the Name of the Lord Jesus, or His Church. Our degrees are an honor to you, but we want you to likewise be an honor to our School.

The administration of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary reserves the right to reject any student that we have good reason to believe is failing to live up to these standards. However, after genuine repentance and a period of counseling and restoration a student may be reinstated.

Bishop Joe N. Dixon has been in full-time ministry since 1977, founding Greater Mount Zion Christian Church, Inc., Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, and is the presiding prelate of Zion Independent Prophetic Ministry.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is open to all Christians of good moral character. We are happy to instruct and train God’s Children regardless of: Race, Nationality, Color, Cultural profile, Denominational background, Class, Gender, Economic status, or Ethnic Origin

Every student is admitted to the same educational programs, rights, privileges, and honors. And this is in conformity to Civil Rights Act of 1964, but not because of it.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary requires that students seeking admission either:

·        Have a diploma from a high school, or

·        Have passed the general educational development (G.E.D.) test, or

·        Be a mature person, who can demonstrate that they have the aptitude and capacity for doing the required work.

The further requirements of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary are very simple. You must:

1. Be saved

2. Agree with our Doctrinal Statement

3. Abide by our Conduct Standards

4. Fill out the proper application

5. Return it with the proper fee

We have had many students since 1994 even though we advertise very little.  They reside locally, and most of them are pursuing degrees.

Our students average 35 years or more and are self-supporting. We have a fair mix of male and female, lay Church workers, part-time and full-time ministers.

They are zealously serving the Lord in their respective callings, ministering in Hospitals, Rest Homes, Jails, Prisons, etc. Some are prominent leaders and officers in Churches of many kinds.

They are involved on the cutting edge of what God is doing in this end-time. Many are serving as Pastors or Assistant Pastors of Churches. Others are engaged in all kinds of Para-Church operations.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is very proud of the productive careers of our students. We love to get exciting letters from our graduates telling of the latest victories, exploits, and promotions they have experienced.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary maintains a permanent record on file of each student, containing name, address, telephone number, fees received, courses taken, grades, certificates granted, and dates.

Upon enrollment we may furnish you with the names and addresses of some of our students in your own area. We invite YOU to join The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary family and friends across the nation to “study to show yourself approved unto God.” II Timothy 2:15

The administration and staff of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary are concerned about each of our students, and sincerely care about their needs. We stand ready to assist you in attaining your future goals; and we are committed to providing personal attention and encouragement. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to write, E-mail, or call.

We will gladly reply as promptly as possible, but please realize that we receive many inquiries everyday, so please be patient and give us a few days to respond.

Some schools are such sticklers about their many rules and regulations.  I think they do a dis-service to the Body of Christ, which is why some of them eventually become defunct. But The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary does not wish to be so rigid in dealing with individual student circumstances.  If there’s something we can work with you on, let us know how we can accommodate you.  If you have a unique situation, perhaps we can find a creative solution. For instance, we do not mind backdating a certificate somewhat.

The day to day work of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is carried on by a competent staff of workers who grade answer sheets, record examination grades, file resumes and information, and fill orders for courses. But we often get overloaded and have to call in extra help, including local students, who assist us. But Bishop Joe N. Dixon personally supervises all operations.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary believes in fellowship with all the Body of Christ.

We seek to cooperate with all local churches that stand upon the uncompromised Word of God; and to work with all other Christian organizations. We do not subscribe to the obtuse ecumenical movement of the One World apostate church. We evaluate each student upon His or her present personal qualities, not by past sins or former affiliations. We wish to maintain a mutually respectful relationship with all other good Bible schools.

The ideal Bible course should meet three specifications:

1.                  It must be Biblically true, doctrinally sound, spiritually rich, very understandable, and useful in your daily life.

2.                  It should be inexpensive, affordable, and within the reach of most everyone.

3.                  It should not be too time consuming, too much of an inconvenience upon one’s busy schedule, and free from boring “busy work” requiring unnecessary toil and hassle.

The Holy Bible should be the Supreme Text Book of every Bible School and the steadfast criteria for judging all doctrines, practice, and experience.

Therefore, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary has put meticulous care into its courses to make sure every statement lines up with the Word of God. Each course is a well-organized body of knowledge about God, man, the Christian life, and the ministry. They are spiritually inspiring and academically excellent, yet simply expressed and readable.

The courses are very user-friendly. All you have to do is:

1.                  Read accurately,

2.                  Think clearly, and

3.                  Apply to scheduled exams.

More appropriate Scriptures and facts gleaned over years from many sources are crammed into these four books than in any similar college courses I have seen. Ideal for marriage counselors. Following is less than half of what is in each book:

The next two courses really go together and are highly recommended for all beginning Evangelists and Pastors, to learn as much as possible before they launch any kind of ministry, to help them cope with typical problems. Well-experienced ministers can also get a lot out of the variety of subjects, which can fill in any holes in your knowledge and increase your understanding of up-to-date practical ministry involvement. The array of information, revelation, impartation, and activation can propel you out of the ordinary into the realm of the extraordinary.  The Thompson Chain Referenced Bible has a similar chart, but it contains only 37 verses. We have compiled over twice as many categories---80! This 48 page, 8 ½” x 11” book arranged in parallel columns of the Old and New Testaments immediately prove that:

·        There’s a God, Who is omniscient.

·        The Bible is the inspired Word of God.

·        Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah of Israel.

This is the message Jesus preached in Luke 24:24-30. Peter preached it in Acts 3:18-19.  Paul preached it in Acts 17:2-3. There is overwhelming evidence for the claims of Christ and His two comings. It also contains the Seven Scriptural witnesses to the true Divine Identity of Jesus.

This Scripturally heavy and very timely motivational course embodies a mature approach to the vital role of the ministry of the Church in the world today.

Book 1. Serving God and Sharing Christ. Witnessing: Why, How, What, Ways, Where, Who. Results.  Fruit-Gift-Ministry. Public Evangelism.

Book 2. The Book of Revelation. The end of the World. The order of end-time events.

Book 3. The Book of Revelation—Chapter by chapter. The little Apocalypse of Jesus.

Book 4. How to prepare for and deal with the coming world-wide wave of persecution of the Church. Our defense: Taking the Gospel to the streets.

The first book contains a Plan of the Ages chart. The last book contains a Dispensation chart demonstrating the difference between O.T. & N.T. standards of conduct.

A school could have hundreds of courses, but King Solomon said, “Of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.” Eccl. 12:12.  Nevertheless, we have long ranged goals for an enlarged scope of studies to expand our curriculum.

The grading system of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is as follows:

40 Credits=Diploma

90 Credits=Associates Degree

120 Credits = Bachelor Degree

150 Credits = Master’s Degree

210 Credits = Doctorial Degree

It seems that most of the students that the Lord sends us make good grades.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary does not require as much work of our students as Oxford and Cambridge, and as most other schools, we do not require a written paper for the Baccalaureate degree. But in addition to taking the prescribed courses, we do require a Thesis for the Master's degree and a Dissertation for the Doctorial degree.

It takes skill to rally, arrange, and polish your ideas. The paper you write is to provide practice in clearly communicating your thoughts. It is a self-teaching method to develop your ability to effectively express yourself in written form.

If you’ve ever written anything, you should be able to write a good paper for your degree. First, choose a subject that is particularly interesting to you. It should also be a topic that directly relates to the field your degree will be in. Following is the kind of subjects that would be pre-approved:

·        The Life of Christ

·        Substance abuse--cause and treatment

·        The Holy Spirit

·        Ministering to children and/or teens

·        Divine Healing

·        Dangers of the “new age” or cults

·        Heaven and Hell

·        Apologetics—defense of Christian faith

·        The 5 Gifts Ministries

·        Protestant Reformation

·        Eschatology

·        Overcoming Depression

·        Christian ethics

·        Ministering to the dying

·        Church growth methods

·        Church history

·        World mission/evangelism

·        End-time Apostasy

·        Angels and demons

·        Christianity vs. world religions

Of course, your paper is to represent original independent research, and avoid plagiarism (copying other people’s work without giving proper credit). We encourage creative thought---expressing your own insights, ideas, and opinions.

Now frankly, there’s not a lot of difference between:

1. An Essay

2. A Treatise

3. A Thesis, and

4. A Dissertation

Educators don’t always agree, but the general understanding is as follows:

·        ESSAY---a brief personal literary composition on some subject. Shorter and less formal than a thesis, but reflective, analytical, and critical.

·        TREATISE---a formal systematic and elaborate literary composition, presenting some serious subject.  It is longer and more exhaustive than an essay.  A treatment of evidence, principles, and facts, followed by a conclusion.

·        THESIS---a formal essay or treatise on a particular subject, presenting some proposition advanced and defended by argumentation. A dissertation offered by a candidate for an academic degree, usually the Master’s. A logical premise or postulation (as opposed to a hypotenuse) such as the 95 Thesis of Martin Luther that he nailed to the Church door, protesting Catholic corruptions.

·        DISSERTATION---a formal lengthy treatise on some subject written as partial fulfillment of requirements for a degree, usually the Doctorate; an extended discourse or discussion written in an argument format and learned manner.

You may consult your personal library or any public library. It’s advisable to make an outline or list of the points you wish to cover, and arrange them in some plausible order.

We feel content is more important than form, so we do not insist upon strict adherence to any particular formal style, as long as it is readable and understandable. Footnotes at the bottom of pages and a bibliography of references are optional, but we do expect spelling, grammar, and punctuation to be correct.

LENGTH---The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary requires the Master’s Thesis to be at least six pages or more and the Doctorial Dissertation to be twelve pages or more. We encourage much longer papers, but limited to 20,000 words. A regular sheet of paper typed double-spaced is about 250 words, so six pages would be about 1,500 words and twelve pages would be about 3,000 words.

·        Use plain white paper 8 ½ x 11 only

·        Type double space, as error free as possible

·        One inch margin, on top, bottom, and both sides

·        Number your pages somewhere

·        Staple or bind it together in some way

·        The Top Cover Sheet should contain:

·        The school name and address

·        The student’s name and address

·        The title of the paper

·        The degree it’s for

·        The date it is submitted

Although we encourage fresh work, it is permissible to submit:

·        Previously written work, such as a published or unpublished book or booklet you have authored.

·        If you have written a considerable number of sermons, articles, tracts, or poems, it may be acceptable.

·        A story of some exploit of faith or a narrative of some miracle you were personally involved in.

·        An account of a dream or a vision of Heaven or Hell you’ve had, or someone you interviewed has had.

·        Your personal testimony of salvation or the conversion of someone you led to the Lord.

Since The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary puts high value on bearing good fruit for the Master, we could accept a simple statement or explanation of some sizable worthy project that you plan and execute, but it must be something that you plan and then do now, not in the past.

·        Providing food for the poor and/or clothes for the needy.

·        Cover a neighborhood with tracts and/or invitations to your local church.

·        Help build, paint, or clean a Church, free of charge.

·        Make a big list of people and pray for them one by one all night long.

·        Spend a couple of days conducting Telephone Evangelism---just calling people out of the phone book, introducing yourself, telling them Jesus loves them and offering to pray for them.

·        Spend a couple of days visiting, counseling, and praying for people in a hospital, jail, prison, or rest home.

·        Donate 20 hours or so to a Church helping with office work as a donation. (If you’re local, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary can often use help too).

·        Or you could even recruit a couple of students for The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary.

Most schools charge a fee for reading, evaluating, and grading a student’s Thesis or Dissertation, and it does take considerable time, attention, and concern. However, the Spirit of Truth does not require a fee for this service at this time.

Remember; do not send your original paper, but rather a photocopy of it. We will keep your paper on file as part of your permanent record. Of course, we would never copyright your work, but we do reserve the right to use it for the Lord, as we see fit.

A degree is an academic title conferred by an institution of higher learning showing that a person has satisfactorily completed a particular program of study. The certificate is the actual document itself.

Degrees are progressive. One level is built on the preceding one, each level representing a higher work effort, and the equivalent of another year of study. The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary offers all five levels: Diploma, Associate, Bachelor, Master, and Doctor:

·        DIPLOMA--- (40 credits) this is the first level, and like a Christian Worker’s Certificate. Some schools have just a “Certificate” where we have a Diploma.

·        ASSOCIATE--- (usually 60-64 credits, but we require 90) the Associate Bachelor degree represents the equivalency of two years of academic study. Typically, awarded by a junior or community college.

·        BACHELOR--- (120-128 credits) conferred for the equivalency of four years of full-time study. But you can earn a Bachelor’s degree in two or three months from some schools. “Bachelor” means that you have accumulated a “batch” of knowledge. If you receive a Bachelor’s degree through credit for life work experience from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, you are guaranteed admission into our Master’s degree program, and we also encourage you to go on to the Doctor’s degree program.

·        MASTER--- (150 credits) this represents at least one year of study beyond the Bachelor, but lower than the Doctorate, indicating that you have “mastered a subject.”

·        DOCTOR--- (210 credits) this academic title is awarded for the completion of advanced study and is the highest degree there is. It is the ultimate in the educational world, and has been a title of respect for learned persons since Biblical times, Luke 6:46. It is traditionally held that it takes a doctor to confer a Doctor’s degree upon someone else.

All of these degrees are religious in nature and not only overlap, but are sometimes thought of inter-exchangeable.

·        BIBLICAL SUBJECTS---the study of major Scriptural themes and the main topics of the Sacred Scriptures. Courses dealing with various doctrines of the Word of God; that which is devoted to the fundamental beliefs of the Holy Bible.

·        CHRISTIAN EDUCATION---general instructions in Christianity, and the study of the doctrines of Christ. Training in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the development of Christian Character.

·        DIVINITY---the study of the one and only Deity. Having to do with the supreme, infinite and eternal qualities of the Almighty; pertaining to the Divine Godhead or Holy Trinity. That which is inspired by God.

·        MINISTRY---pertaining to the work of the Lord and service for God. Training in the performance of office of clergy. Rendering help to people and caring for the saints.

·        THEOLOGY---the study of God and the expounding of Christology; Courses dealing with the relationship between God and the universe and man. The cultivation of the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity.

Since our courses are rather general, we don’t mind accommodating our students by granting their preference to receive their diploma, associate, bachelor, masters, or doctor’s degree in Biblical subjects, Christian Education, Divinity, Ministry, or Theology, etc. because as stated above, these terms blend and overlapped in most creeds, books, and schools.

In the secular field there is a lot of difference between a lawyer, a butcher, a banker, and a dentist.

But in the religious field what is the difference between Divinity, Theology, Ministry, Pastoral Counseling, etc.?  Actually, they overlap, for the Bible is the main textbook for them all. We have.

4 Diplomas

4 Associates

12 Bachelors

14 Masters

15 Doctors

6 Hon. Dr. Degrees

A total of 55 different certificates which is more than most schools larger than us. But we only have seven different courses at this time. (More on the way)

So when you take one of our courses, you may choose any degree on an appropriate level recommended for that course.

Some have asked, “What is the difference between a degree in Pastoral Counseling and one in Christian Counseling?” Well, one is for a Pastor and the other is someone who is not a Pastor.

Counseling is meeting together with a person and spending a season with them in detailed discussion to personally consult, advise, guide, and admonish them with the Word of God. We need to do a lot of listening, but not just listen.

A degree in counseling AND COMMUNICATION would include more teaching by way of pulpit, audiotapes, videotapes, radio, television, writing, etc.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary offers the widest variety of religious degrees of any school its size in the U.S.A. However, we do not offer any secular “Arts” (which represents a wide scope of studies including such subjects as education, human relations, literature, etc.), or PhD degrees. A Ph.D. doesn’t have to do with the study of philosophy. It is awarded for study in many fields such as Communications, Management, Education, Human Relations, etc. The Council of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia does not consider it a religious degree, so THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH INSTITUE does not offer it.

If you are a Pastor, Evangelist, or Leader of an active Christian ministry, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary may be able to grant you an Honorary Doctorial Degree on the basis of I Timothy 5:17, if you meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be at least 30 years old.
  • Produce evidence that you are a licensed and ordained minister of the Gospel.
  • Verify that you have at least 10 years of full-time or part-time ministerial experience.
  • Prepare a TYPED one-page summary or resume of your work for the Lord.
  • Secure the endorsements of two other licensed or ordained ministers or other prominent Church leaders.
  • Make a $600.00 contribution to the furtherance of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary.
  • There is a discount for two Honorary Doctorial Degrees for a Married Couple.

You may request an application by Postal Mail or E-Mail attachment.

At the end of each scholastic year, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary conducts a formal Graduation Exercise to officially confer your Degrees upon you at Greater Mount Zion Christian Church, located at 1350 Fleming School Road Greenville, North Carolina.

These Special Programs are usually on a Sunday evening at 5:30 P.M. You may purchase a robe and other memorabilia for the ceremony. You may bring family, friends, and a Camera or Video Camera. For more details you may call Bishop Dixon (252) 830-8994.

God told Moses to make holy garments for Aaron and his sons for glory and beauty, to minister as priests before the Lord in the Tabernacle. Ex. 28:1-4. In verses 29-43, we see the colors of blue, purple, scarlet, and gold displayed.

Kings and princes also wore robes in Old Testament times. Jonathan gave David his robe. And

David danced before the Ark of the Covenant in a fine linen robe. Jesus told the story of the Prodigal son receiving the best robe, a ring, and shoes from his father. Lk. 15:22.  King Herod and his men arrayed Jesus in a gorgeous robe to mock Him. Lk. 23:11.  And Pilot's soldiers put a purple robe on Jesus and mocked him. Jn. 19:1-5.  However, Matthew called it a scarlet robe. Matthew 27:28.  Jesus warned about the scribes who loved to walk around in long robes in their pride, but were hypocrites. Lk. 20:46-47.  But Isaiah exulted, "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. Is. 61:10.

Jesus Himself wore a robe on earth and now does in Heaven. White robes were given to the martyrs in Heaven. Rev. 6:11.  In fact, all the saints in Heaven will have white robes. Revelation 7:9. White robes represent righteousness.

The tradition of the academic dress began around the 12th century in European Universities as clergy composed the majority of the educated class. The academic costume is an adaptation of the cape or mantle, worn by Church dignitaries in religious processions. Through time, many colors and designs of the cap, gown, and hood developed.  In 1896, colleges and universities of the USA adopted a uniform code of academic dress. Most institutions today use the black gown, hood, and mortarboard worn by graduates. The colors represent the school colors. The doctor’s hood has five panels and is slightly longer. The mortarboard, also called the “oxford cap”, has a long tassel and the pendant is worn over the left front of the cap.

When you receive your degree from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary you may use your own robe, if you have one or you can rent or buy a cap, gown and hood from Oak Hall Cap & Gown Co., Union Street, Salem, VA 24153, Phone 1 (800) 456-7623 very cheaply if you place your order 6 weeks in advance. The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary also has extra caps, gowns, and hoods to lend to remote pastors, for the mere cost of postage and cleaning -- $20.00.

Only about 5% of ministers in major cities have Doctor Degrees---but it’s rapidly increasing.

If you receive a Doctorate from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, you have a legitimate right to use the title in your public life either before or after your name, such as: Dr. Joe Smith, Joe Smith, DTh., or Rev. Dr. Joe Smith. You are honestly and ethically entitled to use your title on your business cards, letterhead, brochures, the phone book, road signs, and “Public Service Announcements” in the newspapers, if you so choose.

Perhaps you already knew what a degree could cost, and that many schools simply price their degrees above what the average student can afford. Why should a school charge more than is necessary for its regular operation and reasonable growth projections?  The cost of a degree or the amount of time involved does not necessarily increase the quality of education.  So, why pay an exorbitant fee for the very same degree that you can get elsewhere for much less money?

The goal of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is to provide students with the finest Biblical education, at the lowest possible cost. Thus, we have deliberately priced our degrees very low, because we think we can do more good for more people this way. Our educational philosophy and methods are not unique, but in the matter of finances we are unique. The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary offers the best investment you'll ever find. Following are our exceptionally low fees.

Please make all checks or money orders payable to The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary. Sorry, no credit cards yet and no credit. Just pay as you go. Please allow at least a couple of weeks for a response.

The degree fee for the Master's degree may be divided up into two or three checks, post-dated a month apart and we will hold them till the due date. Likewise, the Doctorial fee may be divided up into three or so checks dated a month apart.

Since our overall fees are so low, there's no regular discount for combinations of degrees, except for a graduate who wishes a second doctorial degree, which would then be half price. We cannot send courses on credit or issue degrees before the appropriate fee is paid, because frankly, it's too hard to keep up with who owes what.

Now the price of your books may not be considered a tax-deductible gift, because you're getting your course book in return for it.

The major assets of The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary are the priceless treasures of the Word of God, and student satisfaction. We operate out of relatively small offices, but we don't rent; we own. If you paid us an on-site visit, all you would see is rooms full of shelves that are full of Bible Courses and filing cabinets full of student records and some volunteer or part-time office help.

All of our income goes into utilities, office equipment, supplies, typesetting, printing, and postage.

Whenever you get something of high quality at a very low price, it’s a good deal. These great values are exciting, but some folks are amazed and wonder if it’s too good to be true. I assure you there are no hidden costs beyond what is stated herein.

By mutual agreement and prearrangement, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is willing to trade dollar value of any donated equipment, supplies, printing, or ad space in Church bulletins, newsletters, or other Christian publications. Also, “spots” on radio or T.V. programs, or anything else we can use for the Lord’s work.

Also, local students, who have some spare time, may work in our offices in exchange for their tuition cost.  By appointment they may come in once or twice a week for a couple of hours and help us grade Answer Sheets, type, file, and other chores to work off their fees.

Since we have no binding contract for you to sign, like many schools, you may withdraw at any time for any reason, without obligation. You need to notify us. If we don’t hear from you, we just assume you quit.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary does not hire full-time Field Representatives to recruit new students like some big universities; we just depend upon satisfied students for referrals. So if you would like a few BULLETINS to share with your friends, we will supply them free upon request.

Most colleges and universities use what is known as a "semester hour/credit system".  Generally a credit is a semester hour. In a traditional Bible college, a semester hour is around 30 to 48 clock hours of classroom attendance.

The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary is willing to accept the credits you have earned from other legitimate Christian Schools whether they are accredited or not, as long as they teach the Bible

Likewise, The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary credits have been acceptable at many other good schools, but whether a PARTICULAR school or agency will accept our credits and/or degrees is quite unpredictable. We cannot be responsible for the decisions and policies of others. It's a very subjective issue depending upon many circumstances. But I believe you will find most similar schools will accept transfer from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary.

If you plan to apply for some state licensing or a faculty position at a particular educational institution, it would be best to make inquiry as to the requirements of that agency or school at which you wish your education to be recognized. At this time, a degree in counseling from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary will not allow you to set up a formal practice as a licensed professional counselor and charge fees for your services. To deal with stress, depression, anxiety, panic, phobias, and all kinds of sexual disorders for pay requires a State license.

Students are entitled to their personal transcript from The Greater Mount Zion Bible Institute & Seminary, upon request either by the student for a fee of $10. But you should wait until you have completed all studies with us first. Also, any lost or damaged degrees may be replaced for a $10 fee.
